Watermarking

A watermark is a word, phrase (such as “Draft” or “For Review Only”) or image embedded in a preview shown to buyers to prevent unauthorized reproduction.

Note: MarketDirect StoreFront never stores watermarked files. The watermark is applied every time a document is streamed to the browser. Thus, settings on this screen apply immediately.

To specify the watermark text for document preview

1.        Click Watermark Management.

2.        On the Watermark Site Settings page: In the Type field select whether you want to use a Text watermark or an Image watermark.

If you are setting up a Text watermark

1.        Selectmedia for Watermark Preview: Select the size, type, color ofmedia for previewing the watermark.

Note: This will help you gauge how effective the watermark is on a particular media.

2.        Refresh: Updates the preview for the selectedmedia.

3.        View: Click to preview the watermark as a PDF file.

4.        Watermark Mode:

Warning: It is strongly recommended that you use the Automatic mode.

Automatic: This is the recommended mode. In this mode, the position of the watermark is calculated automatically from the actual size of the first page of the document. The position is a diagonal line across the page where the watermark is added. This ensures that the watermark will always show on the page.

Manual: This is the default mode. This mode preserves backward compatibility with previous versions of MarketDirect StoreFront. It enables administrators to control the watermark properties, but the settings will apply to all page sizes. So, depending on the size of themedia in the job, the watermark may be in the center of one page but way off on another.

5.        Watermark Text: Enter the text to display. The default is Proof.

6.        Watermark Size: Specify the size (in points) for the text watermark.

7.        Watermark Font: Select the font for the watermark.

Note: Make sure that the font you select is installed on the server or MarketDirect StoreFront will use the default font for the watermark. The watermark feature supports these fonts:
—Times Roman
—Courier
—Helvetica
—Symbol

8.        Watermark Color: Select a color for the text watermark.

(For Manual Mode only) Watermark Angle: Specify the angle in degrees. The default is 45 degrees, but this angle may not produce the desired effect on non-squaremedia.

(For Manual Mode only) Watermark Horizontal Placement: Specify placement for the watermark: Left, Center, Right.

(For Manual Mode only) Watermark Vertical Placement: for the watermark from the pull-down list: Bottom, Center, Top.

(For Manual Mode only) Offset X: The value you enter positions the watermark from the origin you specified in the Horizontal Placement and Vertical Placement fields.

(For Manual Mode only) Offset Y: The value you enter positions the watermark from the origin you specified in the Horizontal Placement and Vertical Placement fields.

9.        Opacity: Specifies the degree of transparency (in decimals; e.g., .5 = 50% opacity) for the watermark text.

10.    Allow Printing: Check this box to enable the buyer to print the PDF preview file (i.e., the version with the watermark).

11.    Click Save Changes.

8.        Click Save.

Warning: You must save changes before previewing the watermark.

9.        To preview the watermark with the choices you have made on a particularmedia, select themedia from the pull-down list in the Select media To Preview Watermark field then click View.

Note: It may take a few seconds for the View link to be available while MarketDirect StoreFront recalculates the size of the watermark with the selected font and size and positions it on themedia.

Note: Certainmedia characteristics will not be demonstrated in the preview (e.g., weight, thickness, and the holes for 3-hole punched paper will not be represented on the preview).

Imaging: Category and Product Images

Category and product images can be stored on a different web server. The virtual directory must be mapped to the physical directory.

Note: If you change the physical directory, you will have to move the directory manually to the new location or image links will be broken.

To set the display properties for online catalog product thumbnails

1.        In the (Advanced) Images Physical Directory enter the virtual and physical directories where category and product images are stored.

2.        Click Save Changes.
